How do you find out if an egg is raw or hard-boiled? Yes, you can just drop it and see if it breaks. The easiest way is to write “r” on the raw egg and an “h” on the hard-boiled one. But of course, there is another way to find the difference! Just spin it. The hard-boiled egg spins very fast. The raw one spins slower. But, if you stop the raw egg spinning with your finger and release it again, it will start spinning again. This is because the egg yolk, the yellow of the egg, keeps on spinning inside the egg.
Now for a more difficult question: Which egg do you think rolls down a slope faster?
The raw one is faster. Why?
How does it work?
When the hard-boiled egg rolls down the slope, the whole egg, including the yolk and the egg white, need to be set in rotation. This requires a lot of rotational energy. When the raw egg rolls, to begin with the egg yolk doesn’t rotate. Only the shell rotates, meaning less rotational energy is needed and more energy can be put into the forward movement.
