A member of the Physikanten team wears shoes with strong electromagnets attached to the bottom. They are powered by small lithium ion batteries that he wears in a shiny Perspex box on his back. Equipped with these shoes the actor manages to walk upside-down on a steel plate that is screwed to a truss system.
How does it work?
The batteries supply a large current that runs through the coils of the electromagnet, With this an enormous magnetic field is created which provides a sufficient force against gravity, keeping a person attached to the ceiling.
Technical Details
We use standard truss set-ups to which we attach the metal plate (200cm x 25cm x 1cm, weight 45kg). Once set up the construction can still be moved back and forth to provide space for other activities on stage.
