Carolina Eyck moves her hands through the air and produces wonderful sounds that hardly anyone has heard before. She plays on her musical instrument, a Theremin, without even touching it.
When performing with the Physikanten, stage shows are accompanied by a piano or guitar player.
How does it work?
The instrument has two antennas that are permanently emitting a high frequency. When a hand gets close, the antenna holds more charge. In physics terms we say its capacity is changed. The instrument detects the changes in capacity and changes the pitch and the volume accordingly.
