The artists demonstrate how to put out a candle flame from a distance of about one meter with the help of a simple plastic bottle.
A very similar process is then brought on stage: A giant vortex cannon blows large smoke rings of one meter in diameter for more than 30 meters through the auditorium.
How does this work?
At the front hole of the cannon box a circular smoke ring, e.g. a vortex ring evolves. This is the same phenomenon as when skilled smokers blow smoke rings . The vortex ring moves through the air in a very stable manner – and the candle is extinguished.
Safety reference:
We use artificial fog in order to make the rings visible to the audience. This fog has no health risk whatsoever and it is almost odourless.
