To the sound of breaking waves, Herr Schwupp places a golden boat into a Plexiglas container from above. When the boat is roughly in the middle of the container, he takes his hands off the boat. The boat then strangely floats in the air.
How does it work?
In the transparent container is a heavy gas, Sulphur Hexafluoride (SF6). Its density is about 6 grams per litre, making it about five times heavier than air. This heavy density means the gas sits at the bottom of the container, allowing the very light boat to float on top of it, as if the gas were a liquid.
